The Interdepartmental Contest Committee, formed by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, selected leading research centers (LRC) and leading companies that are aiming to develop products, services and platform solutions based on end-to-end digital technologies. According to the results, 11 organizations receive a subsidy of RVC in the amount of 2.8 billion rubles. These organizations include commercial companies, as well as educational and research organizations that implement projects with such companies.

Micran was selected as one of the winners among leading companies and will receive a subsidy for the implementation of the project “Development of domestic 5G modules for medium and large service areas”.

The project involves the development of fifth-generation (5G) base station radio modules in frequency ranges 3.4 ... 3.8 GHz and 4.4 ... 5.0 GHz (Sub-6 range).

The Sub-6 is by far the most popular frequency range and a kind of “golden mean”, due to its reasonable balance between capacity of communication networks and coverage area.

Within the framework of the project Micran is going to create a hardware platform (analog block, digital block, etc.) and develop software for digital beam-forming and digital signal processing in FPGAs. Such a solution can potentially be used to develop radio modules of other frequency ranges, allowing to expand the 5G solution line. The created software ensures the equipment operation accordance with the 3GPP rel.15 and higher standards at the RAN separation levels for Split 8 and Split 7.2 models. To work on communication networks with equipment of other manufacturers a support of O-RAN v2.0 protocol via eCPRI interface will be provided.

One more important feature of the project is the development of own analog path elements: power amplifiers and low-noise amplifiers for radio module at frequency range 4.4...5.0 GHz based on in-house semiconductors of the A3B5 group.

Micran is Russia’s leading manufacturer of electronic devices, including wireless communication systems and IIoT solutions. The company is an active driver in the 5G consortium for domestic development of radio components and base stations, based on 5G technology.
